Professional LinkedIn profile makeover

I am writing this post while nodding my head in disbelief.

Recently, a company Director has asked me to revamp his LinkedIn profile.

You’d think that every serious executive or business leader knows this. LinkedIn can catapult your business or professional career. It’s the absolute ‘gold standard’ for the business version of social media. It’s your virtual business card or handshake that helps you promote your professional skills. But it must be current and complete.

Problem is that he has an account with LinkedIn but his profile, let’s just say, is not optimised. He has no professional photo; no compelling headline; no credible summary; no descriptive keywords; no links to products and services. That’s so many missed opportunities!

Now, I know he’s not the only one; I have seen many others with ‘impotent profiles.’

So, if you have an account with LinkedIn then make sure that your profile is concise, compelling and professional. Most importantly, keep it up to date.

If you struggle for words or find yourself ‘too close to the trees to see the forest’ then hire a professional copywriter to help you capture and articulate your personal and/or business brand and value proposition.

Use customer-oriented keywords for the ‘specialities’ section to increase your chances of showing up in search results. A good question to ask here is ‘what keywords would your target market use to find someone with your knowledge, expertise and service offering?’

But, I am beginning to get into the ‘technicalities’ here, and that’s not the purpose of this post. Many great articles have been written on the subject, and you can find some of them below.
